Like his early February 2012 NFL mock draft, ESPN's Todd McShay has the Detroit Lions selecting an offensive lineman in his most recent mock draft, which came out on Wednesday. This time around, however, he doesn't have the Lions selecting Georgia's Cordy Glenn. Instead, he has them taking Ohio State's Mike Adams. Here's why:
Adams is a little scary at this point given his inconsistency on tape and the fact that he does not always show a killer instinct, but he has the size, agility and long arms you look for in a starting left tackle. If the Lions believe in offensive line coach George Yarno and the leadership in their locker room, this could be their chance to get the heir apparent to longtime left tackle Jeff Backus.
For me, this would be a very underwhelming pick, and it's not one I really expect the Lions to make. Adams just doesn't strike me as somebody who would be considered the best player available on the Lions' board, regardless of how many linemen may go ahead of him. I could certainly see the Lions going with a tackle, but I'm not all that sold on Adams.
(And no, I'm not just saying this because he went to Ohio State.)
