IT education and human resource development ? Irrespective of whether everybody in the country has access to computer technology, we are living in a world of information and communication technology. Though Bangladesh is lagging far behind other countries in terms of computer use and Internet connectivity, its public administration and flow of information at domestic level, education and scientific research, mass media and publication, as well as business and agriculture are already depended, and rightly at that, so much on ICT that we can no longer think of a moment without the use of this most modern technology. ICT is a blessing for mankind, as is with Bangladesh too. Introduction of information technology contributed to tremendous socio-economic development in many countries; it can neither be otherwise for this country.Bangladesh is striving hard to come out of the least developed country status, therefore, large-scale IT education will strengthen the efforts and act as an impulse to human resource development, socio-economic growth and establishment of a knowledge-based society. It is universally recognised that the more universal computer education is in society, the faster will be the pace of development. It is in line with this conviction that experts at the inaugural ceremony marking the 21st founding anniversary of the International University of Business Agriculture and Technology, according to a daily sun report yesterday, underlined the introduction of extensive computer education and emphasised the need for full-scale computer use both at personal and social level in order to achieve the above objectives. That computer technology in Bangladesh has a bright prospect has been adequately demonstrated by our IT experts and computer programmers who achieved brilliant successes in different international competitions as well as software development. Software export to countries like the USA and Japan and outsourcing business are fetching millions of dollars for the country every year. Wide ranging computer education possibly at all mid-level to higher educational institutions will open wide doors for the development of ICT. And for this to happen, computer and Internet connectivity should be made available for every educated person. ICT is the most effective and the cheapest means of human resource development. Investment in this sector will undoubtedly be highly rewarding. ( This news is viewed 100 times ) Click here to give comments about this article |
